ZD Top 5 – Puzzles

August 20 2015 by Kira Koneko

One of the pieces of the “puzzle” that makes The Legend of Zelda series so fantastic is actually puzzles! You encounter many along your journey to save the lands that you love, some that inspire you to seek out and tackle all of them, and some that might stump you permanently. That is exactly what we did to the team at Zelda Dungeon for this weeks ZD Top. We asked the staff to come up with their Top 5 Puzzles…

A while back USAopoly struck a deal with Nintendo to license out Zelda and Mario games. Surprisingly, the products that came out of it didn’t seem to just be quick cash grabs but actually well thought out products. They have created a few Zelda products already that have turned out to be quite nice collector’s items. I myself am not a huge Monopoly fan, but I couldn’t get over how impressive Zelda Monopoly was. With a few Zelda puzzles already…

Puzzles in the Legend of Zelda series have always been a significant component in its gameplay, especially in the more modern entries. In a recent interview with Nintendo’s Japanese website, Aonuma answered questions about the direction of the puzzle-solving aspects in Zelda for the Wii U. The latest of these Wind Waker jokes parodies…

But what about during the school year? We’re going to be looking at the actual educational value of the Zelda games; how they can benefit you and how you can use them as an excuse to get your mind going…

Almost immediately, Journey was met with an even greater degree of critical acclaim, with many reviewers praising the game as a must-play experience. Having played the game myself, I agree entirely with the praise. Journey‘s gameplay amounts to one thing: movement. There is no combat, there is very limited puzzle solving (and the puzzles all revolve around moving forward), and…

In this series of articles comparing major elements of Skyward Sword with those of previous titles in the Zelda series, I have already covered the introduction, the overworld, and the story and characters. This will be the final article in this series, comparing the core gameplay of the game to that of its predecessors. The core gameplay of a Zelda game, arguably, is the combat and the puzzle-solving; the skills you use the most while navigating the overworld and that…

Nintendo has been releacing various videos of the history of the Legend of Zelda for the 25th Anniversary. Each one displays a certain element of the series that makes it so memorable by fans. Earlier we showed the 25 Years of Power taking a look back at all the many boss fights and challenges over the years. This time we are taking a look at all the many puzzles and hidden secrets Link has to overcome in each game.
