Our best soundtrack tournament continues with two new titles. As The Legend of Zelda and Link’s Awakening duke it out in yesterday’s poll, A Link Between Worlds and Spirit Tracks step into the fray. A Link Between Worlds Vs. Spirit Tracks The soundtrack to A Link Between Worlds serves almost as a greatest hits album for Zelda songs. Drawing from the series’ earliest roots, from the first Zelda to A Link to the Past, this game’s OST includes all of…

The Zelda CD-i games have been marked with infamy since the release of Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon in 1993 and the release of Zelda’s Adventure in 1994. The cutscenes failed to live up to the graphical quality of the time, the voice acting has been endlessly ridiculed, the controls can be downright frustrating, and the games have been the subject of many YouTube poop compilations. It almost feels as though the games had been set up for…

Throughout the years, The Legend of Zelda has played around with music genres that one wouldn’t typically associate with the series. The Hidden Village theme from Twilight Princess, for instance, is wonderfully subversive with its Wild West-inspired sound. Similarly, the Middle Eastern influence of Ocarina of Time’s Spirit Temple theme is rather refreshing. That said, the series has mostly stayed true to its “classic fantasy epic” roots. As a spin-off title, Hyrule Warriors experimented even further with a soundtrack comprised almost…

Our best soundtrack tournament continues with the first one-on-one match-up. As the Zelda side games duke it out in yesterday’s poll, The Legend of Zelda and Link’s Awakening step into the fray. The Legend of Zelda Vs. Link’s Awakening Our inaugural head-to-head contest places Zelda‘s first console game against Zelda‘s first handheld game. The original Legend of Zelda was a groundbreaking video game, proving that the medium was capable of epic adventures and grand worlds to explore. And the game’s…

Happy Music Week, everybody! We’ve been having so much fun planning the big musical features you’ll see throughout the week, but one can’t forget the trusty, ol’ Caption Contest. Today’s image features one of my favorite characters from Breath of the Wild, the Rito musician Kass. This accordion player can be found all over the Hyrule, ready to offer Link a clue or a fable about a given area. What secret could he be giving hero in this picture? You…

Each game in the Zelda series has a unique theme song that epitomizes the qualities of that game. Skyward Sword with Ballad of the Goddess, Breath of the Wild with the Champion’s Ballad, and Link’s Awakening with Ballad of the Windfish (lots of ballads) all stand out to me as beautifully composed songs that are iconic and memorable. While I enjoy all of these, it is my opinion that they are all beaten out of the top spot by a main…

Hey there, everyone! I am proud to welcome you all to Music Week, a celebration of all things musical in The Legend of Zelda. I have the pleasure of kicking off the festivities with a new season of Zelda Versus, our tournament series in which you vote for the best aspects of the Zelda series. We finished our best dungeon tournament last fall, ultimately crowning the Stone Tower Temple as the greatest of the great. Now with Music Week upon…

We are kicking off music week with a very special Hyrule Compendium! As many of you may know, at the end of the week we will be revealing our top 50 Zelda songs as chosen by our staff. In this entry into the Compendium, we discuss some of the honorable mentions that didn’t quite make the cut. We also tease some of the songs that will be appearing on our list. If you are anticipating our top 50, you certainly…
