Majora’s Origins

December 05 2010 by Axle D. Wilder

Alright guys, the last Majora’s Mask video. I intended to do it earlier DURING Majora’s Mask Month, but it didn’t work out. Still, here it is, finally, even if it is kinda late. Enjoy! So this video is about Majora’s origins, obviously. I’ve said it over and over again (including in this video), but Majora’s Mask was a mysterious game, and the true nature of Majora himself, the villain, is one of its greatest mysteries. But there are some hints…

Majora’s Mask seems like a very unusual sort of Zelda game. Most games in the series have used a template of game design and storytelling very similar to your standard fantasy epic. Majora’s Mask was a different sort of story. Ironically, while the stakes were far higher than they’ve ever been, we were dealing with a very personal journey, and the story dealt more with the every day dealings of the people than it did with the battle against evil….

Our friends over at Zelda Eternity will be doing a live stream of Majora’s Mask today, starting at 6pm US Eastern Time. This is not going to be an ordinary stream as Mike, the webmaster of Zelda Eternity, will try to complete the 3-Day Challenge! What this means is that, after the beginning sequence of the game where Link recovers the Ocarina of Time and reverts back to his Hylian form, Mike will try to beat the entire game in…

Hey guys! So this is another video discussion about Majora himself (or is it herself?) for Majora’s Mask Month. Last video when I talked about why I don’t believe Majora is a child, I constantly referred to him as a “he”. A lot of people in the comments brought this up, some agreeing some disagreeing. I had already considered doing a video about Majora’s gender, so I this was basically the last push I needed to decide on this video….

I don’t see [Majora’s Mask] as underrated or even much of a “black sheep” as a lot of people think. I see it as an experiment in story telling that worked wonderfully. ~ Xinnamin Majora’s Mask is a Nintendo 64 game that has long lived in the shadow of its predecessor. Majora’s Mask never had a chance to step into the limelight – Ocarina of Time always captured gamers’ interests more. But recently things have taken a turn in favor of…

Hey guys, sorry for being a day late but here’s the mailbag! All about Majora’s Mask, of course. I love this month, haha. 13 questions, and I must say there are some really good ones in this mailbag. Enjoy! Questions and timestamps: (00:22) – What is your favorite form of Majora in the final boss battle? Majora’s Mask, Incarnation, or Wrath? (01:14) – Last mailbag you said the Happy Mask Salesman could handle Majora’s Mask when the Skull Kid couldn’t,…

Yo guys! Sorry for not having a regular video discussion for Majora’s Mask Month until now. Here’s one, though, and it’s about Majora himself. Specifically, his relationship with the Skull Kid and why I do not believe Majora is supposed to be a child or child-like. This is a theory I actually hear a lot, about Majora being a child, and I’ve never supported it. I’ve always felt (for reasons I will explain in detail in the video) that Majora…

At first glance, Majora’s Mask appears to be an obscure, almost experimental entry in the Zelda franchise.  While its graphical style, overall gameplay formula, and control scheme build upon what was introduced in earlier Zelda titles, its time mechanic and focus on masks makes for a different experience from previous games in the series. The differences are welcome and not easily ignored.  For the most part, they enhance the basic elements of the franchise as a whole while forging a…

Majora’s Mask is a game often applauded for its atmosphere. People constantly talk about both that and how dark the game was. These two things tend to be prime topics when discussing MM’s uniqueness – those, and the emotion they spawn either intentionally or unintentionally. This article is about the atmosphere and darkness, but mostly about the emotion of the game. The atmosphere of Majora’s Mask is definitely distinct in places. The sense of dread. The feel of the mysterious…

For your next Majora’s Mask Month article revival we’ll be looking at another article from Zelda Informer’s collection of Bombers Articles. In this article we’ll continue to examine some theory about the nature of Majora’s Mask and the ties between it and The Fierce Deity’s Mask. The article is stuffed full of brilliant theories so I’ve pulled out a very plausible, yet intriguing, theory about The Fierce Deity’s Mask. An important point within the article comes early and that point…
