Majora’s Mask is possibly one of the greatest sequels to an already perfect game. It took many of the ways we thought about playing Zelda and put them into an emotional blender. This game took Link and put him on a personal journey that we’d never seen before, and in my opinion, never since. But that then raises the question of, why was there never a sequel to Majora’s Mask? A sequel which tells one more chapters in the Hero…

Majora’s Mask has reached its 20th anniversary this month, and the team at Zelda Dungeon are celebrating. This game seems to have had a profound effect on many of us, ranking at number 3 on our Best Zelda Ever: 2019 Edition List. But this leads me to wonder, what exactly is it that makes Majora’s Mask so popular amongst Zelda fans? The first thing that springs to mind is that Majora’s Mask is a masterpiece in its own right. And…

Ocarina of Time was an instant classic in November of 1998. Visually striking, it stood as pinnacle of three-dimensional games, as well as revamping the Zelda formula previously set in A Link to the Past. Even today it is regarded as not only one of the greatest Zelda games, but one of the greatest games in general. Ocarina of Time represents the adventurous spirit of the Zelda franchise within every aspect — story, gameplay, visuals, puzzles, characters — which is why…

Despite often being overshadowed by Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask has one of the best soundtracks of its era. The game has a wide range of music, with a diverse set of songs creating a variety of tones and moods. Overall, the game includes a large amount of fresh new songs as well as a some old favorites from previous Zelda games. With this in mind, what is your favorite piece of music from Majora’s Mask? There are a variety of…

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is probably my favorite Zelda game alongside Ocarina of Time. While other games have let Link explore lands besides Hyrule, in comparison Termina feels more interesting than, say, Holodrum or Hytopia. Termina’s compacted nature and character-driven stories make the game deeply impactful, and it certainly left an impression on me. It’s also great that Termina has its own separate history laid out, and might hint towards deeper lore that isn’t explicitly told. Since the…

More than any other Zelda title, Majora’s Mask has a story driven by your interactions with the world. Every character you meet has a purpose, desires, and a story to tell.  Each time you slip through time, you seek to further heal the wounds of Termina. Some souls require Link to delve deep into the world’s temples. Others simply need a kind ear and a soothing song. With so many tales interwoven into the world, there is bound to be one…

Editor’s Note: This article was originally published May 24, 2019. Romani Ranch is a small ranch community located off of Termina Field, home to Cremia, Romani, and a bunch of cows. The location serves a halfway point for Link’s quest in Majora’s Mask, as the path from Milk Road is originally blocked by a boulder and Link can only blow it up once he obtains a Powder Keg after conquering the game’s second dungeon. In addition to an opportunity to…

Ever since I first encountered the online Zelda community, I’ve seen many fans voice their desire for the return of Majora’s Mask‘s most memorable characters. And other than perhaps Skull Kid, the Majora’s Mask character people have most wanted to see come back has been the Happy Mask Salesman. But despite the continued support of his most vocal supporters, and a few promotional stunts by Nintendo before the release of Majora’s Mask 3D, the HMS has stayed on the shelf…

Majora’s Mask reaches its 20th anniversary this year, and there’s no arguing that there is plenty to celebrate. This title was the second installment in the Zelda series to utilize 3D graphics, making it a truly memorable game for its era. It’s even had a well-deserved upgrade, having been remastered for the 3DS in 2015. What’s more, on top of its gameplay and graphics, Majora’s Mask warranted critical acclaim for the complexity of its story. If you haven’t had the…

Many dungeons in the Zelda series can be considered pretty straightforward, with the more or less simple task of getting from start to finish. Majora’s Mask steps away from this simplicity with the introduction of Stray Fairies, which can be collected and exchanged for rewards at the local Fairy Fountain. This feature is unique, adding new depth to dungeons in this game. On top of solving the usual puzzles, players must search every nook and cranny of the dungeon’s complex…
