The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is a game memorable for it’s dark themes, gameplay and the originality of the music composed by Koji Kondo. In an interview, recently conducted by GameSpot, Kondo is asked which scene he enjoyed creating the score for most in the game…

Ever wondered what’s inside the mind of the man behind most of the music in The Legend of Zelda? In a recent interview with GameSpot, Koji Kondo was asked about a number of different topics regarding his work. The answer to one question in particular is sure to make many Zelda fans rejoice. When asked if there was any type of game in particular that he preferred creating music for, he had this to say:

We’ve all fallen in love with Koji Kondo’s work on the Zelda series over the years, but we won’t have his handy work to look forward to in Zelda U. In a recent interview with GameSpot, he explains how he won’t be composing any of the music in Zelda U but will instead be supervising, suggesting he could be the overall sound director. While he has done this role many times over the years, he’s almost always had his hand in at least one piece of music in each game, but that won’t be the case this time around, as he’ll let all the other talent create the music. Here is what he said when asked about his work on the next Zelda title…

Were you hoping for the Majora’s Mask soundtrack in Majora’s Mask 3D to get overhauled? Maybe a digital re-orchestration? Koji Kondo has shed light on this and states rather plainly they didn’t do anything of the sort. They cleaned up the audio, just like they did in Ocarina of Time 3D, along with some re-balancing to suit the 3DS speakers versus TV speakers. For the most part however, the game will sound exactly as it did back in 2000. Here’s what Koji Kondo said when asked about the music in Majora’s Mask 3D…

Nintendo Minute hosts Kit and Krista had the chance to interview the prolific composer of video-game music, Koji Kondo, whose list of works include several iterations from the Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda series. Kit and Krista’s subject for the interview was Kondo’s “compositional process.” Borrowed from scholarly discussions about music, the term refers to the methods and/or steps by which composers write a piece of music from conception to the finished product. In other words, it addresses the question: How do composers compose? As may be imagined…

If there was one aspect of Ocarina of Time 3D most fans can agree was a slight let down, it was that the music itself didn’t get the same “remade” treatment the game did. Some felt maybe Grezzo was being lazy or possibly that the budget didn’t exist to take care of it. Whatever the case may be, folks generally wished it happened. Koji Kondo has finally spoken up on why it didn’t occur, as it appears it was entirely his own decision to not do it…

To say the music in The Wind Waker is magical always feels like an understatement. What some may not know is that Koji Kondo himself wasn’t the Sound Director. What I personally didn’t know is that the music in The Wind Waker is actually his personal favorite overall batch of video game music for a game he didn’t direct. That’s a huge compliment to the sound director for The Wind Waker, of whom I have been unable to pinpoint. The first name listed on most sources for the sound team is Kenta Nagata, but 3 other composers took part. Those composers included Koji Kondo, but also Hajime Wakai and…

Koji Kondo has been around for a long time at Nintendo, so he’s composed hundreds if not thousands of different songs for various games – either as the lead sound director or simply as someone who is part of a larger team. We’ve come to know and love many of his works over the years, with much of them being instantly recognizable when we hear them anywhere we go. Interestingly enough, The Legend of Zelda theme is among some of his favorite compositions he has ever created. Here’s what he had to say when asked in a recent interview about his favorite music…
