In February of 2014, fan, artist, and musical raconteur Jeremiah Sun took on the project of digitally orchestrating the entire score to The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. He has been releasing tracks over the past eleven months and already has completed and released an impressive 52. Each of them demonstrates his vision (well, his “hearing”) of what the original Gameboy release’s sound capabilities might have been. Using computer software, he orchestrated each original track and even added original, secondary melodies in some areas to realize the potential of the themes. In this sense, his arrangements border on re-compositions. Nevertheless, since the creators of The Legend of Zelda series have taken to remaking so many prized games, they might want to listen to these tracks.

If you’ve ever wanted to explore Koholint Island in 3D, now’s your chance! A fan by the name of Jordan Mullen, with the help of some friends, re-created the game’s map in a Google Earth-esque 3D view. The art seems to be mostly taken from Link’s Awakening DX on the Gameboy Color, though a lot of assets seem to be from the original game as well. Sorry, the Camera Shop didn’t seem to make the cut. An interesting thing to note is that this browser-based ‘game’ uses both remixes and original tracks from the game. Even the dungeons, caves, and houses (including the Wind Fish’s egg and Richard’s castle) are all mapped and matched with the proper music. So far in my exploration, it seems only Richard’s house and the telephone booths aren’t accessible.

The controls are rather simple: you control the green cylinder with either WASD or the arrow keys and jump with Space. If you fall through the map at any point (or into a pit), you will respawn at Marin’s house.

I want to give props to the people who made this. This has been quite the worthy time-waster. Maybe someday, if we’re lucky, they’ll tackle the other Gameboy titles! Wouldn’t it be cool to roam around Holodrum in 3D? You can find the 3D map right here.

Now available on Etsy from Digitalsoaps is a Link’s Awakening Game Boy cartridge made of soap! It is made of a gray colored soap and it has all the little indentations just right so it actually looks like a real game cartridge. The soap is scented with Digitalsoaps’ “Vanilla Select” oil. You can smell good and feel nerdy as you do it. The sizing of the soap is quite accurate and it weighs 7/8ths of an ounce. At six dollars…

Deviantart member blueamnesiac recently posted a few images showing what Majora’s Mask might have looked like if it appeared on the original black and white Gameboy. Included in the images are an animated title screen complete with the familiar moon, a file select screen, and a little bit of a cutscene with Deku Link and Tatl. The images are a bit smaller than what we are used, only about 160px tall but do an excellent job of recreating the look…

Here is the third video from Official Nintendo Magazine from their interview with Zelda Williams. Today, Zelda talks about what kind of games she typically likes to play, saying that games such as Grand Theft Auto bore her and that she much prefers old school games like Super Mario Land and Tetris for the Gameboy. There are still a few days left in Zelda week so you can expect a couple more videos. Be sure to keep checking back the…

Wired recently held an interview with Mario series producer Yoshiaki Koizumi. Koizumi also worked in various capacities on several of the earlier Zelda games, from A Link to the Past through The Wind Waker. While speaking of the future of Mario on the Wii U, he was reminded of an experience from the days of Majora’s Mask development. Here’s the excerpt from Wired’s article: “When I think about the two screens being used at the same time, it seems like…
