We have been talking about the upcoming title The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes since the day it was announced during Nintendo’s E3 Digital Event. Many of us have gone through a myriad of emotions about the game; excitement at its announcement, confusion as to some gameplay aspects, to now curiosity and the return of excitement as most of us Zelda fans are currently starving for new content. To help quell the curiosity and possibly expand on the excitement,…

Ever heard of a game called Minecraft? Sure you have. It’s the game that made its creator, Notch, a millionaire. Recently acquired by Microsoft, Minecraft is the best selling PC game to-date. With an incredible amount of 19 million sales, its no wonder this game is all over the Internet.

I myself have played quite a bit of Minecraft, ever since the game’s release in 2009. However…

A few months ago, we saw the premiere episode of Creatures of Hyrule, a series of fan films meant to bring the iconic beasts of Zelda to life. Last week, filmmaker Jared Potter and (part one) media released the series’ second entry, titled Forest Guardian. In this action-packed episode, Link is confronted with a Stalfos, resulting in a life-threatening battle with the sword-fighting skeleton…

YouTube filmmaker Jared Potter released a remarkable fan made short film entitled “Creatures of Hyrule,” part one of a live action series centering around the Zelda franchise. This fan made web series depicts Link traversing through different areas of Hyrule encountering an enemy. This is a very impressive video using CGI, sets, costume design, and exceptional editing, so be sure to hit the jump to take a look!

Hello everyone! For those who don’t know, this article is a continuation of a series started last week about level design in Zelda games. I’ll be looking at every single dungeon in these Zelda games: Link’s Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and A Link Between Worlds, seeking to find which dungeons are examples of excellent level design, and then bringing that analysis to you fine folks.

Today I’m talking about Ocarina of Time’s Forest Temple. I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a huge fan of the Forest Temple. It was okay, but only stood out to me because you get the Fairy Bow in it. Since I’ve been replaying games seeking out great dungeons, it was a perfect opportunity to take a fresh look at Ocarina of Time’s Forest Temple. After playing through it with an open mind, I’m still not personally a fan of it, but I have much more appreciation for what it does right in terms of level design, which is quite a lot. Let’s dive in, shall we?

The Legend of Zelda series has seen some amazing boss fights over the years, but if there’s one that sticks out for me, it’s the fight against Phantom Ganon at the end of the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time. If you want to come out of that one alive, you require both skill with the controller and the ability to discern the boss’ patterns; and let’s not forget that it’s one of the most aesthetically pleasing in the series….

Mystery of the Lost Woods

January 18 2013 by Djinn

The Lost Woods is one of the more well-known recurring overworld regions in the Zelda series. First appearing in the original Legend of Zelda, the Lost Woods have become a mainstay in the landscape of Hyrule, alongside Death Mountain and Lake Hylia. In most appearances the player is required to journey through the Woods in a very specific pattern to make it to the other side safely. If this pattern is not completed correctly, the Woods will often repeat or…

I’m finally kicking off this series with, of course, the first dungeon of Twilight Princess: The Forest Temple. Like the Woodfall Temple from Majora’s Mask, this dungeon is very basic in theme and has some challenging puzzle design instead of being a tutorial session. It’s not overly difficult, of course, but it definitely doesn’t waste time teaching you the game. And, unlike most first dungeons of the series, it manages to establish its own identity and style, forming its own…

The first four Zelda games have largely similar, and mostly iconic, dungeon music. It’s generally energetic, mysterious, and indicative of danger. The Legend of Zelda’s dungeon music could even be called sad; but for the most part, what followed was a host of very similar themes, to set up similar atmospheres and a unified feeling for the dungeons of these games. Ocarina of Time’s themed dungeons were notably different. Perhaps due in part to the 3D, but also building on…

Alright, so I’ve already talked about the Child Link dungeons of the game, going way into detail on the dungeons that essentially form the introduction of Ocarina of Time. Now I will be reviewing and examining the Forest Temple, the first of the game’s Adult Link dungeons, and this is significant because the second portion of the game is practically designed as the game’s true beginning. The Child Link dungeons have relatively simple design compared to the Adult Link ones,…
