If the split timeline after Ocarina of Time is to be believed, then no hero ever went to Termina in either the Downfall or Adult Eras. The events of Majora’s Mask would have played out unopposed, and The Moon would crash into Termina. Such a catastrophic impact certainly would have destroyed the surface of the world, and it would have caused such a colossal amount of debris in the sky that an ice age would set in. My question to…

There are no shortage of foes for Link to pit himself against in the Zelda series. The majority of non-boss enemies in the games are comprised of monsters, bestial creatures, or undead minions. There is little in the way of active intelligence among such enemies, because they rely on instinct or malice to direct their actions. A sharp contrast can be found in the Darknuts and Iron Knuckles. These trained warriors use a mixture of quick wits, high armor, and…

As we approach the two-year anniversary of Breath of the Wild 2‘s initial — and, as of right now, only — unveiling, my mind is racing with speculation on what we might see from Link’s next adventure. Specifically, I’m eager to see how Ganondorf is presented this time around. After all, it’s been nearly 15 years since his last appearance in a mainline entry. Among Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess, each interpretation of our Gerudo King…

Dragons have been  a part of Zelda since the very beginning, as the series has featured a variety of serpents barrowing characteristics from various mythologies. These great creatures are by no means limited to two categories, but for the sake of consistency, we’ll focus on the primary two that come to mind: Eastern-style and Western-style dragons. Both have had a home in Zelda for years, although there is a noticeably greater presence of Western-style dragons. Personally, I welcome the presence of both….

I remember the first time I played through the Stone Tower Temple in Majora’s Mask. After flipping the dungeon upside down in an eerie fashion, I didn’t expect another mini-boss after the Garo Master, but as I entered a room engulfed in darkness and saw the iconic door locking moment, I knew I was in for something spooky. Let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed, and I am not ashamed too say I audibly screamed a few times in fear when…

For all the criticism leveled at Twilight Princess by fans and critics, the game has some of the best enemy designs in the entire Zelda series. The murky and somewhat more realistic art style, while often maligned by many fans, lends itself to some incredible enemy and boss presentations. The game features some massive and monstrous bosses like Diababa, Morpheel, and Stallord. These foreboding creatures are sights to be hold, even if their fights do not always live up to…

Spoilers for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity below. Please read at your own risk. Upon finishing the final chapter in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the player unlocks a unique game mode that is reminiscent of Breath of the Wild‘s random event, the Blood Moon. In Breath of the Wild, the Blood Moon re-spawned defeated enemies, mini-bosses, and found items. In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the Blood Moon gives the player the opportunity to try a more challenging battlefield…

For a series with the breadth and longevity of The Legend of Zelda, it’s surprising that more than half of the titles released during its life share a single antagonist. Ganon (misspelled “Gannon”) was the primary villain in the series’ debut, and a majority of the games since have featured him, or the threat of his influence, as the primary source of evil. Even games which contain other antagonists often make them the underlings or puppets of Ganon. Some of these secondary…

I hear it all the time: “Ganondorf undermined Zant in Twilight Princess!” These words appear across my screen, and I shake my head. I get why people feel this way, but I can never agree on it. I think Zant was executed perfectly in his own way; between his visual presentation and  the story in general. I think the problem is that, when Ganondorf is introduced, Zant remains the threat we are actively fighting. This leaves the Usurper King in…

It would be an understatement to say that the Zelda series borrows many creative ideas from various folklore. Hyrule and other settings are worlds full of everything from fairies to mermaids to goblins, the latter obviously renamed to create enemies such as Moblins or Bokoblins. Even Lynels bear resemblance to centaurs and manticores, and Hylians themselves are reminiscent of elves and leprechauns. Twilight Princess in particular features protagonist Link as a werewolf, Skyward Sword has enemies called Furnixes and Staldras based…
