Inside The Deku Tree was a far too complicated dungeon for me when I first picked up an Nintendo 64 controller as a wee toddler. Thus, most of my time in Ocarina of Time was spent in Kokiri Forest hopping over streams, falling off bridges, and picking up rupees in hedges Link could barely see over. Kokiri Forest is an anchor for many Zelda fans as the early beginnings of not only one grand adventure, but also the other Zelda games to follow. It is a place of youth, innocence, and exploration, and this is owed in part to the safe atmosphere created in the haven of green hues and magical fairies.

As a result of the incredible sound design in Ocarina of Time, this notion is reflected in the music that plays in Kokiri Forest. The song is upbeat and joyful, and a recent jazzy cover celebrates this wonderfully. Musician Tyler Jenkins is a powerhouse of skill and editing in this cover, playing nine different instruments and splicing them together to create a seamless and nostalgic musical experience for the viewer.

Jenkins has plenty of other video game-inspired covers on his YouTube channel, such as a jazzy “Wistful Wild” from Pikmin 2 and a unique version of “Jump Up Super Star” from Super Mario Odyssey. You can also follow him on Instagram and Twitter to keep up on what he does next!
