For some people, summer has been a long time coming; and for others, it crept up out of nowhere. There’s much to look forward to in the sunny season, but for speedrunning fans, summer marks the coming of Summer Games Done Quick. The event, which features speedrunning bots, live commentary, speedrunning Q&A’s, and raising money for charity, is one of two hosted by Games Done Quick each year. With the show right around the corner starting on July 4th, the schedule for the show has been released and, as per usual, several Zelda games are on the itinerary.
For those unfamiliar with Summer Games Done Quick, the event is a week-long show in which speedrunners of all persuasions come in and perform live for the sake of raising money for Doctors Without Borders. All the runs are broadcast onto Twitch, and viewers are encouraged to give donations in order to have messages of theirs read out or to have the runners perform specific tricks and challenges. Along with GDQ’s other event, Awesome Games Done Quick, it is one of the biggest speedrunning events of the year and a wonderful, wholesome time for runners and video game fans alike.
There aren’t quite as many Zelda games on the SGDQ schedule as there were for Awesome Games Done Quick 2021, but there is definitely enough to make tuning in worth it for any Zelda fan. Among the showings are an Any% run of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, a 100% run of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, and an “All Dungeons” run of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And I guess there’s a run of Link: The Faces of Evil too if you’re into that.
Summer Games Done Quick will run July 4th to the 10th. You can view the schedule for the event for yourself here and follow Games Done Quick on Twitch to tune in for the event.
What do you think of the SGDQ schedule this year? Will you be tuning in and dropping down? What games are you excited to see run? Let us know in the comments below!
