Solar Ash Kingdom, developer Heart Machine’s long-awaited follow-up to Hyper Light Drifter, was just officially announced. While few details have been revealed, the announcement was made alongside a debut trailer and a short interview from creator Alx Preston. A successor of sorts to the studio’s previous title, this new project diverges from the pixel art stylized after the SNES era and goes instead in the direction of full-on modern 3D graphics!

This project has, in the past, been only hinted at on the Heart Machine website as “Game 2.” As such, it is still at this point unclear whether or not Solar Ash Kingdom is a sequel, prequel, or related in any other way to Hyper Light Drifter. All we do know is that, from here on out, Alx Preston is not planning on keeping quiet regarding the project and that it will be drastically different from Hyper Light Drifter due to “a whole new set of incredible tech and key innovations.”

Solar Ash Kingdom is being produced by Annapurna Interactive and will (likely) be available via the Epic Games Store for PC. As of right now, there is no news of any tentative release dates or any other information available for that matter. As Hyper Light Drifter is one of my favorite non-Zelda games, I will be anxiously waiting any news on the project and I hope that it will make its way onto the Switch like its predecessor.

What are your thoughts on Solar Ash Kingdom? Will you be waiting patiently for its release? What are your hopes for this new title? Let us know in the comments below!
