While not everybody was psyched for Byleth being the final DLC character of the first Fighters Pass for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there was still Fighters Pass Vol. 2 to look forward to. There are even a few fans in the Super Smash Bros. community already looking toward what lies “beyond Vol. 2” as it were. Unfortunately, it’s now best if those idyllic “Vol. 3” dreams just stayed dreams.

Super Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai recently sat down with Famitsu to talk about the latest title in the series and its future. One of the more notable items he brought up in the interview is that the six confirmed DLC characters for Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will be the last for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Sakurai says his main goal right now is Vol. 2 and making sure he doesn’t leave anything behind in terms of quality. This is why he considers these final six DLC fighters “luxurious additions”.

He confirms that currently neither he nor Nintendo are thinking about the future of the series at the moment. Sakurai does note that this doesn’t mean there’s no future for the Super Smash Bros. series.
