Link 3dsIn a somewhat unexpected move, Nintendo has put up a demo of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS in the Japanese eShop. What makes this particularly noteworthy is that only 5 characters are playable, with Link being one of them! I made sure to include some footage after the jump, so if you’re a fan of using Link in Smash Bros., you’ll definitely want to check it out!

The demo for Smash Bros. allows users to choose Battlefield (or its Final Destination variant) as a stage, with Mario, Pikachu, Mega Man, Villager, and Link being the only characters available to select. This is also the updated build that was previewed at Japan a little less than a week ago, meaning that this should be the final version of the game. I’ve mentioned before that Link felt really strong, and it appears that I’m not the only one who thinks so.

Here’s a video by ZeRo, a noteworthy player from the Smash community who seems to echo my sentiments about Link and does a great job displaying what he’s capable of:

Overall, Link seems stronger in every aspect, which is refreshing considering he’s typically at the lower end of the spectrum in terms of character viability. I’m particularly fond of his new dash attack.

Although the demo is only available in Japan or for people with a Japanese 3DS as of now, fret not! Sakurai has said that players outside of Japan should “stay tuned” for more information, leading me to believe a demo is likely for the rest of the world at some point in time.

Have any of you downloaded the demo? Will you when it becomes available for everyone?
