Okay, let’s address the Vah Ruta in the room — video game re-releases aren’t always the most exciting. Developers rarely allow older games to evolve from their core experience. And we, as gamers, pretty much know what to expect at this point: updated graphics, faster load times, and a couple small quality-of-life improvements. Extra content is rare. Thankfully, this is Nintendo we’re talking about, and they’re often amazing at making each re-release a unique experience from the original game. For example, Ocarina of Time on the 3DS gave gamers gyroscopic controls, a useful bottom screen, and those sweet, sweet 3D effects.

Thanks to the Skyward Sword HD eShop page, we know the Switch experience will be unique. First reported by Nintendo LifeSkyward Sword HD will come with amiibo support. There’s no word yet on which amiibo will be compatible, or how they’ll enhance the game. But I feel this is a good opportunity to start speculating about which amiibo will be compatible, what they’ll do, or if Nintendo will release special SSHD amiibo for launch similar to the Twilight Princess HD release on the Wii U.

A few other details have emerged from the eShop page. Unsurprisingly, the game will be playable on all Switch modes, allowing for seamless dock, tabletop, and handheld play time. Pro Controllers will connect without issue and, of course, players can utilize Save Cloud Data. Finally, we now know the game’s file size will clock in at 7.5 GB. For a point of reference, Breath of the Wild was almost double the size, at 14.4 GB.

So, what do you think about these new details? Are you excited for amiibo support and the potential for new Skyward Sword amiibo? Does amiibo support make you more likely to pick up the game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
