Skyward Sword Content Update: Pieces of Heart Page

A few days back we updated the Skyward Sword Gratitude Crystal Guide and today we have another Skyward Sword page for you all. This comes in the form of the rebuilt Skyward Sword Pieces of Heart Guide. Much like the gratitude crystal guide, the heart piece guide includes maps for virtually every single heart, along with corresponding screenshots. They are also listed in chronological order as you go through the game.

Heart Piece collection has been a standard in virtually every single Legend of Zelda title to date. Whether it be full heart containers in the NES or DS games, or the 1/4 heart pieces or even 1/5 heart pieces from Twilight Princess. In Skyward Sword, it took more of a lesser roll, having just 24 pieces of heart, with there being two full heart medals that Link can hold on to as well. It was a bit more random in Skyward Sword as well, with some hearts found in dungeons, some in Goddess Cube treasures, some just right in the open for you to collect, and others as rewards from mini-games. While I did like the diversity of finding them, it just didn’t seem as exciting collecting them this time around in comparison to previous Zelda games.

In general, I wasn’t overly happy with the collectibles in Skyward Sword. The bugs and treasure were heavily based on the upgrade system, which while it was a nice addition, wasn’t fleshed out as much as it could or should have been. The Goddess Cubes and Goddess Treasures were alright and they often times gave worthy rewards. The gratitude crystals were also okay, but weren’t completely necessary. They were sort of just the middle-man between doing a sidequest and actually collecting the reward. With all those, along with heart pieces, the game had its fair share of side quests and collectibles, but I don’t think it was one of the great appeals of the game. I much prefer the extensive side quest and collectibles found in games such as Majora’s Mask or more recently with Phantom Hourglass.
