A Link to the Past is considered by many to be one of the best of the early Legend of Zelda games, and not without good reason. The game began a new era in Zelda in many ways, music being one of the ways. A Link to the Past, in spite of its 2D origins, had wonderful music to go with its still-beloved visuals. The theme for Hyrule Castle is one of the first pieces of 16-bit ear-pleasing that you get upon starting up the epic tale of pink-haired Link, beginning with his journey to the castle in search of Princess Zelda. This theme is so iconic to the series that it has been recreated many times over, and pieces of it have been reused for subsequent games. The well-known trumpeted intro to the song appearing in Twilight Princess’ iteration of Hyrule Castle’s theme, albeit in a darker tone.

Metal covers of Zelda songs are not uncommon, but they are pretty awesome! So I invite you to watch the video above and listen to the electric guitar-y goodness as MetalFortress on YouTube does a cover of A Link to the Past‘s iconic Hyrule Castle theme. Did you enjoy the video? Do you like metal covers of Zelda pieces or do you prefer the original themes as they stand? Feel free to discuss it in the comments below!
