Reviews For The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Are Here!
Posted on May 11 2023 by Heather Beard
It should come as no surprise that reviews for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom would appear the day before the game’s release. The highly anticipated sequel to Breath of the Wild has been talked about since the summer of 2019, and the day is finally upon us. The reviews are in, and in short, the game is excellent, perhaps even better than Breath of the Wild.
Before diving further into reviews, please note: this article will contain no spoilers or specific information regarding Tears of the Kingdom.
Many sources are giving Tears of the Kingdom raving reviews. OpenCritic cites the game as “mighty,” with an average review score of 97%. I’m honestly blown away at all of these high and positive scores!
IGN’s review calls Tears of the Kingdom a “remarkable sequel that somehow raises the bar even higher into the clouds.” Metro GameCentral calls the game an “excellent sequel and one of the best Zelda games ever made. A follow-up that builds upon and refines the achievements of the original, while adding many new and equally innovative ideas of its own.” And GameSpot says, “Tears of the Kingdom is a triumph of open-ended game design that pays homage to the best parts of the Zelda franchise’s own storied history–and sometimes exceeds them.”
Metacritic has given Tears of the Kingdom a 96, based upon 83 reviews, and the game has been given their “must play” ribbon.
Personally, I did not do too much of a deep dive into the reviews to avoid spoilers on the cusp of release night, but I think these few examples speak for themselves, and my hopes of a game that builds on the success of Breath of the Wild is coming true. Honestly, we might have a contender for Game of the Year and most of us have not even ventured back into Hyrule yet.
The reviews have left me with a great first impression of Tears of the Kingdom, and I can’t wait to pick up my copy of the game later tonight! What is your opinion on the reviews of Tears of the Kingdom? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
