Rare Triforce Pin on eBay

For those of you with a heavy wallet, a rare chance to obtain a fairly hard-to-find piece of Zelda-related memorabilia has arrived. The Triforce pin you see to the left is not to be confused with the ones available from the Nintendo World Store; these babies have only seen the hands of less than 300 people. Just a couple days ago, eBay user conde-gaona posted an exceedingly rare Triforce pin on the site, box and everything, with a starting bid of $1,800. As of the writing of this post, no bids have been made yet.

Now, some of you may be wondering what makes this pin so special. Well, a few years ago Nintendo had its own online community for its fans called the Nintendo NSider Forums. These forums were active from March 2003 up until their closing in September 2007, and in that time they were very busy with hundreds of active users at any given time.

In order to promote orderly conduct among users, Nintendo established a special rank for exceptional members: the Sage rank. Among many other benefits, this rank also merited the user exclusive bonuses from Nintendo itself. Upon being appointed to the position every Sage received a special Triforce pin and a signed certificate from Andy, the Nintendo of America representative who ran the forums. In the four years the forums were active, less than 300 users received this rank. That means very few pins like the one above are in existence.

I actually remember being an NSider user back in 2006 and 2007, and I hoped upon hope for the chance to receive the Sage rank. Alas, I never achieved that point, but I am a bit surprised that someone is selling their proof of such an admirable rank. How about you guys? Did you ever visit or become a part of NSider?
