Screen Shot 2013-08-01 at 10.38.06 AMJust recently, Exploding Rabbit has finally released its latest major update of Super Mario Bros. Crossover 3.0. In this third version, you can play as various forms of Link (original Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening), Zelda, the Old Man, Dark Link, or even Ralph from Oracle of Ages and more! You can even choose to have the Mario graphics, items, and sounds replaced with those from the Zelda series. Link and Mario characters together, in one game. Sound familiar? Aside from Smash Bros. we’ve only seen Mario characters in Link’s Awakening (and Ocarina of Time if you count Talon and Ingo). However thanks to Exploding Rabbit, fans can enjoy perceiving Link and others in the Mario world.

Although Super Mario Bros. Crossover has been in the works since 2010 with various updates and dedication that have since then been improved significantly for the sake of enjoying a simple crossover where you can experience the Mario world with other characters. The game is free to play as it is a flash game. You can play it here.

In addition, the crossover includes an optional tutorials and a wide selection in choosing the enemy, map and interface skins along with different Mario worlds. You can also play in full screen and have the option to use a gamepad for which the game was originally designed for. Other characters include characters from; Metroid, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Blaster Master, Castlevania, and the Super Mario Bros.

Other sword-wielding characters from the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy series are selectable from the “Link” section as well.

Weee look at the Old Man go! Glad to see him having a turn outside his cave. And no, as dangerous as it may be, he does not wield a sword, just a staff.

Lately there’s been quite a few Zelda influenced games and mods allowing players to experience Zelda characters in different genres and styles whether you’re allowed to play the Legend of Zelda as Zelda herself or defend and conquer in a game such as Hyrule: Total War. And yet for a while now we’ve been able to play as Zelda characters in a Mario crossover, with many things cleared up in this 3.0 release old and newcomers can experience the latest Exploding Rabbit has to offer.
