Pachter seems to be really pleased with the Wii U after all the surprises Nintendo gave us yesterday, but we know PS360 Bayonetta fans were more than displeased. So what does Pachter have to say about all this?

“On Wii U: if you know what Bayonetta and Monster Hunter are, you will get one at any price; if not, you might wait for a price cut. On Wii U success/failure: I think that it will sell 50% as well as Wii, but will start as well because of fan base and supply constraints. Wii U has two potential markets: hard core, who WILL buy it; and casual, who have a lot of alternatives. Casual competition threatens all 3. I think Wii was 50% casual, 50% core; 360 was 65/35; PS3 85/15. Casual alternatives (tablets, phones, social) hurt Nintendo more than others. – Michael Pachter”

Seeing as the Wii U has been attracting more and more hardcore titles, it seems the console will be able to attract the market it is trying to regain. I myself agree with Pachter, hardcore gamers will end up buying a Wii U eventually and I do think the console can be a success. But to stay afloat, the console is going to need more exclusives that will attract hardcore gamers. The angry Bayonetta fans are more than enough proof that one exclusive isn’t going to cut it.
