In somewhat unexpected fashion, The Legend of Zelda (NES) is going to be featured in the finals of the Nintendo World Championships on June 14th. This is mostly unexpected since the game doesn’t traditionally keep a score, but there are obviously some easy ways to get around that for real calculations. This could also make some hope that this means a Zelda U trailer at the very end – but don’t hold your breath – it is going to be one of the featured games in the finals – meaning there will be other franchises represented. Here is the official PR statement on it:

“Nintendo World Championships 2015 –Twenty-five years after the original, the Nintendo World Championships return on June 14, set to start at 3 p.m. PT, with pre-show broadcasts kicking off the day’s activities prior to the tournament. While the full lineup of games won’t be unveiled until the big event, hopeful contestants can prepare to compete in the original The Legend of Zelda, as well as a mix of other Nintendo games.”

For those wondering, this was initially announced through a surprise mini-direct released early this morning. You can check that out below if you’re interested in seeing the announcement in its original form.
