Early this morning, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced some big news: we’ll officially be learning more about the successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.

“It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015,” Furukawa said. Now, by the end of the Japanese fiscal year in March 2025, it seems we’ll know more about what the future holds in store for the next iteration of Nintendo hardware.

Furukawa also took the opportunity to announce that there will indeed be a Nintendo Direct held in June 2024, as many of us have been suspecting; but those hoping for Nintendo Switch successor news will just have to wait a little longer. The upcoming June Direct, according to Furukawa, will be covering upcoming games for the second half of 2024, and will not be mentioning the next Nintendo console.

Were you expecting this pre-announcement for the Nintendo Switch’s successor at this point? When do you think the big announcement will finally come? What are you hoping for from a Nintendo Switch successor? Let us know your thoughts down below in the comments!
