Nintendo Switch’s Online Service to Launch in September
Posted on January 31 2018 by Rod Lloyd
Nintendo has just announced that the long-delayed online service for the Nintendo Switch will launch in September 2018. Nintendo Switch Online, as it is called, will be a premium monthly subscription service and will cost $20 USD annually. Subscribers to the service will be able to play Switch games online (online play will be free until the service launches) and will also have access to classic Nintendo games like Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight, and Dr. Mario.
Aside from the annual $20 subscription, short-term subscription offers will also be available, such as one month for $4 USD and three months for $8 USD.
Nintendo Switch Online’s $20 annual price point does seem reasonable when compared to the $60 annual costs for Xbox Live’s Games with Gold and Playstation Plus. But with Nintendo only offering access to a few NES games and their competitors offering access to more contemporary titles, a lower subscription fee should be a given.
What do you think of Nintendo’s online plans for the Switch? Will you subscribe? Let us know in the comments.
