With the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom less than six months away, marketing promos have started to go out, and one keen-eyed observer has discovered a new detail about the game.

Spotted on an in-store promo brochure for the highly anticipated Zelda title by Dutch Reddit user u/Few_Working3350, Nintendo Switch Online support is being advertized for Tears of the Kingdom. Such functionality is to be expected, as virtually all Switch games feature Switch Online support on some level, as evidenced by Switch game listings on Nintendo’s website.

No further details can be inferred from the promo brochure above, making the nature of this Switch Online support purely speculative for the time being. Though the most likely possibility is that such support relates to Cloud Saves, given that most Nintendo Switch games, especially single-player titles, support “Save Data Cloud” via Nintendo Switch Online, such as Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Metroid Dread, LIVE A LIVE. Still, that doesn’t rule out other possibilities.

Reddit user u/bassieee commented on the original post a translation of the Dutch into English:

While no details of the game’s Nintendo Switch Online functionality are mentioned, the promo does give a brief summary of the game, mentioning the game’s sky exploration. Whatever the nature of the game’s online support may be, only time will tell.

In the past, fans have speculated on ideas such as the possibility of Princess Zelda acting as a secondary playable character or the inclusion of PvP combat, perhaps in the Hyrule Coliseum. The Zelda franchise also includes three games which allow multiple players to adventure out together, a possibility which, while unlikely, cannot be ruled out. Additionally, following the trend of post-launch DLC for Switch-era games, it’s quite likely Tears of the Kingdom may see DLC following its release.

What do you think this Nintendo Switch Online support could mean for Tears of the Kingdom? Do you think it’s merely Cloud Saves, or do you expect something else? Let us know in the comments below!
