It should come as no surprise that Nintendo has been doing very well for themselves over the last couple of years with the Switch. With releases of titles like Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’s no wonder that Nintendo’s seen success on the both hardware and software sales fronts. The company recently revealed their successful year-over-year sell-through Switch sales in 2018 during a recent investor’s meeting.

The main focus of this meeting was the sales figures for North America, Europe, and Japan. The overall news to come from this meeting was that Nintendo saw a massive increase in Switch sales during the Holiday 2018 season for those three specific regions. Nintendo did individually break down with how each region did from April 2018 to December 2018.

Note: Sell-through means unit sales by retailers to consumers.

We’ll start with Japan:

This is what Nintendo had to say in regards to their native region:

“Hardware sell-through from July to September dipped slightly below the same quarter of the previous year, but in the October-December quarter which includes the holiday season, it surpassed the extremely strong results of the same quarter of the previous year. The total sell-through between April and December was in line with the previous year. First-party software sales showed positive results, sprinting upward particularly in October and beyond”.

Next up is Europe who, from the looks of it, had the most improvement in sales last year:

Here’s Nintendo’s response to Europe’s successful 2018:

“…exceeded the previous year’s levels throughout the year and rose particularly sharply in the holiday season. First-party software sales also moved at a comparatively faster pace throughout the year, and similar to the other markets, the sell-through for the October-December quarter vastly exceeded expectations mainly due to our new titles.”

Last, but certainly not least, is North America, which apparently did about the same in 2018 as it did in 2017, but with an increase during the Holiday season:

This is what Nintendo had to say about the North A,erica’s 2018:

“…paralleled the results of the previous year between April and September but then took off during the holiday season, which includes Black Friday. First-party software sell-through was extremely robust and was increased by our new titles selling even better than expected during the holiday season.”
