The Switch has kept Nintendo at the top of the gaming industry since its release in 2017. With three successful years in the books and prosperous games such as Breath of the Wild and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’s no surprise that fans have anticipated the momentum to continue.

Rumors of a so-called “Switch Pro” have persisted for months, but that rumor seems to have been disproven for the next eleven months of 2020 at least. In an official statement, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that “we believe that it is important to continue to communicate the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base. Please note that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020.”

Although it has been confirmed that there will be no new model of the Nintendo Switch in 2020, there is still the possibility that the Breath of the Wild sequel will be released this year. The financial statement even stated that “it is in the nature of our business to value surprise in a good sense.” Additionally, Zelda games being released alongside consoles in the past is a trend not always followed. Skyward Sword, in fact, was released near the end of the Wii’s lifetime in 2011.

What do you think? Will the Breath of the Wild sequel release this year? What would a new model of the Nintendo Switch look like? Let us know in the comments below!
