The newest issue of Nintendo Power is set to hit store shelves on October 4th, but scans are already starting to appear online. Our resident forum member, Vibed has posted a few scans and there is a lot of goodies to be heard. In particular we learn quite a bit about the Skyloftian citizens early on in the game. I have to warn you all, these contain some spoilers, so stay away if you don’t want to hear any of the goodies. If you aren’t concerned with spoilers from the early portions of the game, jump on in to find out more.

  • The Headmaster in Skyloft is named Gaepora and is Zelda’s father.
  • Gaepora laughs with a hoo hoo hoo, likely meaning he is, or is related to Kaepora Gaebora from Ocarina of Time.
  • Links Rival’s name is Groose and he’s somewhat of a bully to Link.
  • Groose also has a crush on Zelda.
  • Groose has two partners at his side, Cawlin and Stritch.
  • Pipit is a student and the resident bird expert of Skyloft
  • Fledge is another Skyloftian who is a real nice guy, but also is a wimp.
  • Link and Zelda are very close friends and have been since childhood.
  • The birds of Skyloft are known as Loftwings.
  • The Knight Academy is the name of the school system in Skyloft.
  • There is a large residential area located within the main island of Skyloft.
  • The actual Sword is the Goddess Sword not the Skyward Sword.
  • Fi appears to Link shortly after the events of Zelda falling to the land below.
  • There is a night and day system, like many Zelda games. The night is filled with tons of dangerous enemies.
  • Enemies such as bats, slimes or cats are found in Skyloft at night.
  • Link can fall asleep to pass the time of day to either day or night. Change does not occur in realtime, Link must sleep to make time pass.
  • Shiekah Stones, much like in Ocarina of Time 3D, return to give Link video hints.
  • You cannot Save at any random point. There are specific save spots throughout the game. Some will be found mid dungeon or before a boss room.
  • When you return from a saved game, you appear at the save spot, not the beginning of the area or dungeon.
  • The second dungeon of the game is known as the Earth Temple.
  • The Earth Temple has a Chinese Dragon theme to it.
  • The Earth Temple’s boss will be the “Pyroclastic Fiend Spaldera
  • The stone sphere will play a large part in the Earth Temple
  • An adjustable interface so you can remove the game/item icons that appear on the screen.
  • Standard interface shows the full controller and the buttons, the Light interface only shows the buttons, while the Pro interface shows practically nothing.
  • Lots of items that are within houses and buildings can be interacted with.
  • Those large blue blocks are referred to as Goddess Cubes. Hitting one with the Skyward strike will cause them to launch into the sky and unlock a silver treasure chest.
  • Ghirahim is seeking to to resurrect his master. (Sounds VERY familiar)…
  • The sword beam attack is called the Skyward Strike.
  • There will be several new races including the Mogmas.
  • Mogmas are great diggers and treasure hunters but are cowards.
  • They Give Link the Digging Mitts and Bomb Bag for his help.
  • Bokoblins are trying to take over Eldin Province. They have a village made on the volcano that Link must raid.
  • On the surface world Link will repeatedly encounter a woman in black wearing the Sheikah symbol.
  • There will be a Storage facility to store items that cannot fit in Link’s inventory.
  • Throughout the early game Link will have repeated nightmares about an enormous worm like monster with pointed teeth.
  • The Scrap Shop will allow you to power up your equipment. You will need to acquire ingredients, some are found while others are dropped by enemies.
