Despite our increasingly digital age, there is still a desire for physical items to own and display.  Last year, Japanese technology company Fujifilm launched the INSTAX Mini Link smartphone printer, allowing people to print photos directly from their phones. The printer is lightweight, making it great for portability. Playing up that portability alongside a certain dual-functioning console, Fujifilm has announced a new collaboration with Nintendo to make an INSTAX Mini Link Special Edition for the Nintendo Switch!

Using a new corresponding mobile app, Switch users will be able to scan QR codes of their Switch screenshots to send photos straight to the app. Once there, all kinds of interesting editing can happen before the photo is printed, like adding custom Nintendo character-themed frames from various games, like New Pokémon Snap, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Super Mario Odyssey. The Nintendo fun can also be applied to regular pictures on a smartphone, which is a nice touch. Take a look at the video above to see the app and printer in action!

Here are some further details on what to expect from the printer and app:

  • Print your favorite characters, add themed frames to your own photos and more using the free dedicated app
  • Switch Direct Print mode: in-game action screenshots can be printed effortlessly on credit card-sized INSTAX Mini Film. Simply connect wirelessly from your Nintendo Switch to your smartphone and close the gap between virtual and reality
  • Customize your mini Link app layout! Choose between Pokémon Snap, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario designs
  • Over 90+ exclusive Nintendo-based character frame designs
  • Compatible with all INSTAX Mini Film
  • Split image & collage options plus video frame capture, extra fun modes party print and match test for even more fun
  • Motion control allows for zooming in and out by tilting the printer, and reprinting favorite photos by turning the printer upside down

The Mini Link Special Edition printer and related product app is expected to release on April 30th, 2021, coinciding with the release of New Pokémon Snap. This printer will also have a unique color scheme: “Fujifilm is also adding a new color variation, ‘Ash White (Red & Blue)’ to the Link lineup. The base color of ash white is complemented by red at the output section and blue around the power button on the front face”, according to the press release.

The Special Edition printer will cost $99.95 USD. There will also be a limited edition Pikachu bundle with a customized Pikachu silicone case that will cost $119.95 USD. If you happen to already own an INSTAX Mini Link printer, you can download the new app for free to use with the printer you have.
