It is no question that this mornings Nintendo E3 Press Conference was a huge disappointment for all of us in the online Zelda world. I fully expected a new Zelda title to be announced, but all we got during the conference was a small hint that the teams have assembled. (Something we had heard months ago)

However, some more bleak information has been revealed since the end of the conference. An interview with Shigeru Miyamoto revealed the slightest of information. This is what the genius had to say.

“The Zelda team in particular always works on Zelda titles. The core members of the Zelda team have for a very long time now been focused on Zelda games, and continue to focus on Zelda games, so they are hard at work and working away,” Miyamoto said. “And then, of course, we have the DS Zelda team as well, so even there we’re having some switching of people in and out where the DS team is mixing in with the Wii team and working on the Wii version.”

“I don’t necessarily think it will change that drastically, but I think that Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas,” he said. “And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find those ideas.”

You can interpret this however you’d like. From a quick read it looks like two Zelda titles are being worked on, one of the Wii and another for the DS. However, one could interpret this as Miyamoto just giving generalizations about how the Zelda teams work. From the way the message was worded it could be that there is just a Wii Zelda in the works but that some of the DS Zelda team are also working on the Wii title. I suppose only time will tell. I sure hope that we aren’t left in the dark for a whole year until next years E3. With the success of Nintendo right now on both the DS and Wii, the need for a new Zelda title is not exactly needed, so they might take their sweet time.
