Director Josh Mason has recently released a new trailer and a “TV spot” for his upcoming Zelda fan film simply titled The Legend of Zelda. While it doesn’t seem to be adapting any one installment in particular, it’s clear that the project is taking inspiration from across the franchise as a whole to create an original story. Characters like Malon and Link appear to sport their Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess designs respectively, while others such as Ganon and Impa take on original designs that draw upon various incarnations throughout the series.

As far as fan films go, it’s an impressive production given its lack of a Hollywood budget and official support from Nintendo. The passion for Zelda and the work of a talented cast and crew is clearly reflected in the trailer. I’m personally very impressed with the Moblin costume that’s been created for the film.

According to the TV spot, The Legend of Zelda was due for a Christmas Day release but it quietly missed that deadline; no updates have been shared since then. If you enjoyed the trailer, be sure to check out the Mason Studios YouTube channel where you can see a multitude of short films, trailers, and convention footage.
