Super Smash Bros. Coming to Nintendo Switch in 2018, Breath of the Wild Link Teased

Nintendo closed out today’s Nintendo Direct presentation with a teaser trailer for a new Super Smash Bros. game coming to the Switch in 2018. While the focus of this teaser was Splatoon‘s Inklings joining the Smash roster, we did get a few glimpses of some returning fighters, including Link from the Zelda series. The trailer suggests that the legendary swordsman will receive a redesign in this new Smash title, as Link’s silhouette clearly resembles his Breath of the Wild incarnation.
Nintendo’s press website lists “Super Smash Bros.” as this game’s working title, suggesting that it is brand new addition to the series rather than a port / remake of Smash 4.
The announcement trailer raises questions about Breath of the Wild Link’s inclusion, as we’re unsure if this is a mere redesign of Link (as was the case with Twilight Princess Link in Smash Bros. Brawl), a new character separate from traditional Link, or an alternate costume for Link. We’re also not sure if we’ll see a similar Breath of the Wild redesign for Princess Zelda, or if Zelda will be in the game at all. We can only speculate until more information is revealed.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch is scheduled for release in 2018.
