Releasing over a dozen albums in the span of the last ten years, The Marcus Hedges Trend Orchestra, pseudonym of prolific video game music composer Marcus Hedges, released another astounding album full of reinvented Zelda tracks just a few weeks ago. This time, Hedges presents 14 rearrangements of songs from Breath of the Wild in a collection aptly titled Breath of the Wild Orchestrated.

Breath of the Wild is sometimes known for its airy, atmospheric accompaniments, so Hedge’s tasteful interpretation of a track like “Temple of Time” really shows the thought and consideration that go into adding something to boost a piece’s emotional prowess. His rendition of “Gerudo Town,” dare I say, is better than the original in almost every way, although I have a hard time describing why (sometimes that’s part of what makes music great though, right?). Hedges even manages to amplify the fuller songs from the game, like “Goron City,” a song I didn’t think could get more bombastic, but somehow did.

My favorite track — although it was truly hard to pick — would be “Korok Forest.” I feel like the song is almost completely reinvented; the new arrangement includes a dancing minuet between the flutist Emma Kramer-Rodger and the remaining instruments. Hedges even hints that he managed to slip in a subtle musical nod at one point during the song (let us know in the comments if you’re able to figure out what it was!). The album also contains all four of the Champions’ themes, some of the other notable songs from villages and towns, and, of course, “Stables.”

Breath of the Wild Orchestrated is available on a variety of popular streaming and music platforms, and you can navigate to the album easily with this link.
