As you collapse on the couch to scroll for your next show, or just another round of Futurama, you most likely fire up Netflix. Maybe Hulu. Maybe Amazon. But dig a little deeper on streaming options and you’ve probably come across apps like Pluto, Tubi, and Crackle. These services vie for attention by remaining ad-driven, but completely free. Although, they tend to have similar libraries with little exclusive or original content.

They all have their niche: Pluto emulates the feel of a cable service. Tubi tried to be one of the first apps to offer local content. And Crackle was famously the home of Sony-owned shows like Seinfeld, until licensing to bigger outlets became more lucrative. I use Pluto to drop in on their excellent MST3K channel. Tubi has some classic anime like the original Lupin III series. And Crackle is the only place I can re-watch old episodes of The Critic.

Now Crackle can boast another big reason to give them a try: A five-part documentary series detailing the history of Nintendo will premiere on the service on March 1. Playing with Power: The Nintendo Story will feature interviews with an array of executives from the Big N and other video game companies. Notably, these will include Reggie Fils-Aime and Phil Spector. The episodes will be narrated by Sean Astin of Lord of The Rings fame, and also include testimonials from famous Nintendo and geek culture fans.

Playing with Power follows a small train of video game docuseries released in the last year. High Score premiered on Netflix. Console Wars premiered on CBS All Access. Both Insert Coin, which is about Midway Games, and From Bedrooms to Billions, which is about the rise of PlayStation, had digital premieres. All of these titles have been surprisingly informative and entertaining.
