Breath of the Wild has been out for nearly two years, and fans are still discovering new ways to entertain themselves in the game’s massive sandbox. From gameplay exploits to “worlds” beyond the walls of the environment, Breath of the Wild‘s glitch hunting community has uncovered countless secrets that developers never intended for us to see. Further proving the wealth of possibilities, a recently discovered glitch completely breaks the reality of Breath of the Wild‘s game world.

Discovered by Japanese player Bot__W, the “World/Reality Overload” glitch alters or removes several aspects of Breath of the Wild‘s Hyrule Kingdom, yielding many unexpected results. While specific effects may vary with each attempt, perpetrators of the glitch have documented invisible trees, half-deleted Sheikah Towers, inoperable Runes, alterations to Link’s character model, and the opportunity to duplicate weapons. The most significant effects to me are the ones that let Link explore certain areas beyond what was intended by the developers. For example, with the overload glitch, players can enter Gerudo Town while dressed as a man, traverse the Lost Woods without the pesky fog, walk underwater, and travel beyond the borders of the game map.

To execute the World/Reality Overload glitch, you must first carry out the “Escape Ganon” glitch, which allows you leave the Ganon battle area while the battle scenario is still active. This glitch alone causes certain elements in the game — NPC’s most notably — to de-spawn. But with a bit more work, you can bend the reality of Breath of the Wild even more. Essentially, by spawning and de-spawning the game’s final boss over and over again by entering and leaving Hyrule Castle (175 times is recommended), a player can overload the game, forcing it to de-spawn certain areas, objects, and processes. From there, you’ll be able to assess just how much of Breath‘s world you’ve broken.

An in-depth explanation on how to perform this glitch can be found right here or in the video embedded above.
