Musician Steven Morris recently released a mini-album of popular Zelda tracks re-imagined in a smooth, jazzy bossa nova styling. “Bossa de Hyrule” constitutes 16 minutes of beachy bliss rearranging the “Title Theme” from Ocarina of Time, “Dragon Roost Island” from The Wind Waker, “Midna’s Lament” from Twilight Princess, “The Dark World” from A Link to the Past, and “Inside the Houses” from Link’s Awakening. The mini-album is available now on all major music streaming platforms, so be sure to check it out if you need a way to wind down after a hectic day.

All of the songs feature nylon stringed guitar, fretless bass, electric reed piano, various Latin percussion instruments, and a particularly jazzy wind section to emphasize the harmonies. I love bossa nova music — it really does transport me to a Brazilian beach and calm the nerves, so it’s lovely to hear Zelda songs given the tropical jazz treatment. And Morris certainly did a good job adjusting the songs to the genre.

If you enjoyed “Bossa de Hyrule,” Morris has a number of other video game music arrangements on his YouTube channel. This includes Zelda songs like “Mabe Village,” “Kokiri Forest,” “Zelda’s Lullaby,” “Richard’s Villa,” and more. He is also available for commissions and collaborations, such business inquiries can be sent to music.and.steven@gmail.com.
