Marimba Cover Gives “Midna’s Lament” a Dream-Like Transformation

Music is as central to Zelda as any aspect of the franchise. Spooky, heroic, or atmospheric, The Legend of Zelda uses music masterfully, injecting emotion into the epic adventures taken by Link. One of the most iconic songs in the series is “Midna’s Lament,” which plays as Wolf Link races to Princess Zelda with the Imp half dead, carried on his back. Now thanks to musician and YouTube content creator Andrew, who goes by Modded Marimba, Zelda fans can enjoy a unique cover of the song.
In regards to his musician name, Andrew explains, “I play an electric marimba and send my signal through a whole bunch of effect pedals. Some of my favorite music to play is from popular video game series. Combine both and the end result is Modded Marimba!” The effects with this cover are a treat for Zelda fans as Modded Marimba summons vibes from another Zelda classic, Link’s Awakening.
As fans know, the marimba is featured in the music of Link’s Awakening and as an item that must be obtained to win the game, the Wind Marimba. When Link collects all the necessary instruments, he plays “The Ballad of the Wind Fish” and wakes the mythical creature from its dream, ending the existence of Koholint Island, along with its inhabitants.
