It seems like over the previous decade there has been one Zelda rumor that has never died off: a live-action adaptation of the series on Netflix. This rumor might be rooted in truth, but because it was constantly revived and re-added to the rotation of speculative gaming news, it soon lost credibility; and rightfully so. But according to comedian and TV personality Adam Conover, Nintendo did in fact have plans to work with Netflix on a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.

While talking about his upcoming Netflix project on The Serf Times podcast, Conover claimed that Nintendo was producing both a live-action Zelda series and a Claymation adaptation of Star Fox with College Humor, a company he was working for at the time. However, Nintendo abruptly pulled the plug on both projects due to an internal leak from Netflix back in 2015, one that made it all the way to The Wall Street Journal’s headlines. After the leak, Nintendo went on record to deny any involvement with Netflix, and of course, here we are years later with nothing ever materializing.

The rumor still lives on though, usually with new twists to roll one’s eyes at. Most of us have heard about a Zelda adaptation of some kind, probably numerous times, but this is the first I have heard about a Star Fox adaptation of any kind that was in the works. Whether Conover’s claims are true ultimately don’t matter, because the adaptations were never followed through with. To hear the tale for yourself, check out the full video above (the claim begins around the 39:05 mark), or click here.
