The upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda film has been delayed, as announced this morning by Shigeru Miyamoto on Nintendo’s official X account.

Miyamoto confirmed that, for unspecified “production reasons,” the release date for the Zelda movie has been pushed back to May 7th, 2027. “It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced,” he said, “and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be.” Miyamoto is serving as a co-producer on the film.

The Zelda movie’s initial worldwide release date of March 26th, 2027 was announced a few months ago. Today’s delay will push the release back by six weeks.

The live-action Legend of Zelda film was first announced in November 2023. The project is being co-financed by both Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with Miyamoto serving as co-producer alongside Avi Arad of Arad Productions, Inc. (Spider-Man series, Venom series, Uncharted). Wes Ball (Maze Runner trilogy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) is set to direct.
