The classic “Song of Storms” has always been one of my favorite pieces of music in Ocarina of Time. It’s a catchy and fun sound that reminds me of a nursery rhyme, but what if this song took on a more serious and dramatic form?

This super version of the “Song of Storms” by YouTube’s Erik C ‘Piano Man’ has all the key ingredients to identify the original tune, but with some interesting twists! It is described as a waltz fantasy, and just in case you don’t know, a waltz is a dance typically performed in a ballroom setting with a partner. Think “Shall We Dance” from the Broadway show The King and I to get an idea. Music Theory 101 will tell you that a waltz is performed in triple time (three beats to a bar). You may recall “On the Beautiful Blue Danube” by Johann Strauss ll, which is quite a famous waltz.

I really enjoyed this version of The Song of Storms. Pianist Erik is a music teacher who wants to show the power and diversity of the piano. Well, he certainly manages that! He has a beautiful flow, with nimble fingers gliding across those keys. I can’t imagine how long he must have practiced this to perfection. The way he creates different emotions by how much pressure he applies to the keys is very effective. Erik also manages to add more detail and depth to the original tune. I love the introduction of the harmonies and the dramatic scales in the middle as well.

What do you think of this fantasy waltz? Will you daydream of Link and Princess Zelda performing a dance that Hyrule will never forget? Let me know in the comments below!
