You stand amidst the endless sands of a vast desert. You walk for miles without any visible changes to the landscape around you. Suddenly, you hear a faraway noise. You can see the sand ahead shifting in the distance as a massive beast pushes its way towards you. You feel a sense of confusion and terror as the huge creature closes in on you. Out of the sand, a leviathan emerges to swallow you whole. That sense of shock and awe were the take away from many player’s first encounter with a Molduga in Breath of Wild.

This violin cover of “Molduga Battle” by Patti Rudisill captures the wild energy of a thrilling encounter with a massive and formidable Molduga. One of the best things about “Molduga Battle” is that the song sounds very distinct from much of Breath of the Wild‘s soundtrack, which heavily features the piano. In this arrangement of “Molduga Battle”, the percussion and violin maintain a blistering tempo, creating a piece that keeps the listener engaged throughout the entire song. Rudisill lets the versatility of violin shine, as the artist uses it to create a variety of different sounds and rhythms.

In the description for the video, Patti Rudisill asserts that this “Molduga Battle” cover was the hardest thing she’s ever had to record. She also asserts that the video was a major labor of love because this tune is one of her favorite VGM tunes of all time. If you enjoy Rudisill’s cover of “Molduga Battle”, it is also available as part of her album Memories of Hyrule, which includes a variety of violin arrangements of songs from Breath of the Wild.
