Listen to This Soothing Kalimba Remix of “The Ballad of the Wind Fish”
Posted on November 18 2019 by Sean Gadus
“The Ballad of the Wind Fish” is one of the most well-known songs in the Legend of Zelda series. Even gamers and fans who have never touched Link’s Awakening are familiar with the beautiful, heart-breaking tune. In some ways, the song has become almost as famous as the game itself.
This simple Kalimba remix of the song by Fai Kalimba is a beautiful rendition of the classic song. The arrangement feels like a soothing lullaby version of the song, as the beautiful tones created by the Kalimba feel extremely delicate and gentle. It feels like the perfect song to play before going to sleep (or trying to get a child to go to sleep).
A Kalimba is a variation of the African “Mbira” or Lamellophone. This instrument is also colloquially known as “thumb piano” in many countries. On many Kalimbas, the lowest notes are located in the center and the notes get higher as you move towards the left and right edges. As seen in the video, the musician holds the Kalimba in one hand and plucks the tines with their hands.
