Ilia occupies a strange place in Twilight Princess‘ narrative. In the first few hours of the game, Ilia seems to be an important part of the community within Ordon Village, and she seems to have a special connection with Link. Unfortunately, as the game enters its second half, Ilia’s role in the story is greatly reduced. By the time the writers and designers of Twilight Princess bring her story to a close, many players have already moved on from the character or dismissed her as unimportant.

Regardless of her character arc, Ilia has one of the best musical themes in Twilight Princess. Her introduction theme, “Meet Ilia”, perfectly captures the gentle spirt of the character. This classical guitar arrangement of “Meet Ilia” by John Oeth Guitar is a soothing breath of the fresh air. When discussing his motivation for adapting “Meet Ilia,” John Oeth asserts that he loves the Lydian, pastoral flavor of the song. The word choice of pastoral is perfect for the girl who hails from the rustic and peaceful Ordon Village.

While songs like “Zelda’s Lullaby” and “Fairy Fountain” often are praised as some of the most peaceful and relaxing Zelda songs, “Meet Ilia” should be included on a short list with those songs. The song is one of my favorites and is a great song to play when you need to take a break or wash away from the weariness of a long day.
