The Legend of Zelda has some of the most recognizable music in video game history. The series main theme from 1986 has been used in almost every Zelda game so far, but amazingly it almost didn’t exist. Originally, Koji Kondo wanted to use “Bolero” by Maurice Ravel, but the song was still under copyright. So instead of using that song, Kondo created the now-iconic main theme for the series.

This arrangement of the main theme by Game Music Collective uses violin and cello to put the listener in an adventurous mood. Overall, the violin and cello harmonize well. The blending of the two stringed instruments create a smooth and spirited piece. It’s an enjoyable arrangement that clearly understands the elements that make the main theme so well loved.

The video is enjoyable to watch with the two musicians wearing cloaks and humorously exploring the woods. The two musicians meet up at the end for the finale of the piece. The video helps the viewer get into an “adventurous” mood, which many fans associate with the music of the series.
