Link’s Awakening is one of the most underrated Zelda titles. Released in 1993 for the original Game Boy, the game came out between two all time favorites in 1992’s A Link to the Past and 1998’s Ocarina of Time. Despite its relatively small scale compared to its console compatriots, Link’s Awakening is an intriguing and masterfully crafted portable adventure. The game has a strong legacy, as the setting and story of Koholint Island have remained an iconic part of the franchise.

This remix by Louder re-imagines the iconic Tal Tal Heights theme from Link’s Awakening in a style similar to A Link To The Past. This arrangement really changes the sound of the song, which now has a very fast tempo and sounds quite different in this new style. The new style/sound doesn’t always translate perfectly from “Tal Tal Heights”, but it’s a fascinating case study in how songs change when an arranger alters the sounds and instruments that are used.
