Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 were truly the two pillars of the Nintendo 64 lineup. Redefining what it meant to be an adventure game and platformer respectfully, these titles sold millions of copies and changed the future of video games forever. About five years ago, Youtuber SwankyBox posted a video asking the question, “What if Mario and Link Swapped?“, focusing on what would happen if our two genre-redefining protagonists were in each other’s worlds. While there have been many videos to ask this question, SwankyBox’s analysis, in particular, set MelonSpeedruns on a quest to give us the mod we’re looking at today.

Called The Legend of Peach, this mashup mod of Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time was created using the rom for the initial Zelda 64 title. The best way that Hard4Games could describe the mod is that it’s a Super Mario 64 game, but with an Ocarina of Time aesthetic. The demo for The Legend of Peach is currently available on the Hylian Modding website and is console compatible. The demo features three different areas to explore, which include Castle Grounds, the Castle Interior, and Bob-omb Battlefield.

MelonSpeedruns is even working on recreating the Super Mario 64 soundtrack using the instruments that were used for Ocarina of Time. The demo even features a unique anti-cheat device wherein Kaepora Gaebora will show up to talk Link’s ear off. The Legend of Peach has its own synopsis as well:

In a parallel universe where Hyrule doesn’t exist, Zelda is kidnapped by Ganon in her own castle.
It is up for our hero, Link, to find all the Golden Skulltula Tokens and save the princess!

What do you think of The Legend of Peach? Will you be trying out the demo for yourself? Let us know in the comments below!
