Learn How A Doomed Port Led to the Development of Three Iconic Zelda Titles

When Nintendo wanted to port the original Legend of Zelda to the Game Boy Color, it turned to Capcom’s Flagship development team to get the job done. A recent Inside Gaming video delved into the many snags this Zelda port deal hit during development. It also discusses how, after making some tough decisions to fulfill its agreement with Nintendo, Flagship went on to produce some of the series’ most unique titles: Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, and The Minish Cap.
The history behind the development of the Oracle games is fascinating, and Inside Gaming does a great job chronicling it and the rest of Flagship’s relationship with Nintendo. It’s always interesting to see how the team behind a game can affect its overall tone, and I can absolutely see where Flagship’s more straightforward gameplay style and distinctive spin on the Zelda mythos comes across in the Oracle games, Four Swords, and The Minish Cap. The team even got in some actual ports to boot!
I thought this video was engaging and very well made; if you agree then be sure to check out some of Inside Gaming’s other videos. The channel posts game reviews, news, editorials, and daily discussion videos; you can find their other Zelda related content here.
