It has been an exciting three and a half years since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was first announced in the reflective eyes of an orange Inkling. We’ve been surprised time and time again by Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai, we’ve been mercilessly KO’d by our friends and a giant roster of characters, and we’ve grooved out to an amazing collection of music. It is no understatement to say that the sheer scale of this game and the effort put into it is indicative of Sakurai and the rest of the development team needing to take a well-deserved nap.

In the final character reveal for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, fans were taken back to that very first cinematic trailer, with the game’s playable roster looking up at a flaming pattern of the well-known Super Smash Bros. symbol. This time, however, the fire minimizes into a single flame; and when Mario approaches it and flings it into the black sky, a key-shaped portal reveals Sora, the protagonist from the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

In the gameplay presentation that followed the reveal, Sakurai showed off the mechanics of the character, such as how he fights with his iconic silver and gold key; the spin jump in particular looks just like that of Breath of the Wild Link. Sakurai chose to leave Sora’s Final Smash as a surprise for the player, but he did reveal its official name as “Sealing the Keyhole.”

Sora is part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s Challenger Pack 11, which will release on October 18th, 2021 and will cost $5.99 USD. Fans who have already purchased Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will automatically receive Challenger Pack 11 on that date.
