Operation Moonfall As we all know, the Legend of Zelda fan community is passionate and quite vocal about the opinions that are shared and/or disputed amongst its members about one of Nintendo’s most famous franchises.  One such example of this enthusiasm can be seen in the incredible amount of support that Operation Moonfall has gathered.  For those of you who do not know, following the release of Ocarina of Time 3D on the Nintendo 3DS, an objective dubbed “Operation Moonfall” was created to generate support and persuade Nintendo to bring another Nintendo 64 classic, Majora’s Mask, to the handheld.  Time has passed, but the hope of a 3DS remake for one of the most highly praised Zelda games has not diminished, despite the fact that A Link Between Worlds is set to release on the platform.  For proof of this statement, look no further than the creation of a Kickstarter project to fund the printing of Operation Moonfall posters!

This particular Kickstarter project has set a goal of $15,000 dollars to be raised by Sep 12, 2013.  Lyndon Willoughby is the creator of the poster designs, and, should the project be funded, Mathias Valdez of Lastleaf Printing in Pueblo, Colorado will screen print them.  Willoughby graduated from the Abilene Christian University graphic design program, and has his own website with samples of the art that he has created.  For more information on him, and to see other pieces that he has created, check out his website here!

In order to get a better grasp of any Kickstarter project, it is often very helpful to view concept art and/or actual mock-ups.  Luckily, the actual artwork is present on Willoughby’s Kickstarter page.  Here are examples of the posters that will be created:

Unfortunately, as with all crowd funding projects, there is always the worry that what is being funded will not have a large impact on larger businesses, certain industries, or the masses.  However, this particular project seems to be poised to reach higher goals and make quite a mark on gaming.  Interestingly, this poster will not simply be placed on the wall to look nice and collect dust; it will be used to rekindle the fires of Operation Moonfall support.  Here is a quote from Willoughby’s Kickstarter page:

“Should funding for this project be successful, signed copies of the Operation: Moonfall print will be sent to the offices of Eiji Aonuma, Satoru Iwata, Reggie Fils-Aime, and the one and only Shigeru Miyamoto, along with the names of every backer for this Kickstarter project.”

While I usually do not partake in crowd funding projects, I may certainly give this particular one a try.  I would most definitely not be against having “Majora’s Mask 3D” be released on the Nintendo 3DS, and these posters could persuade Shigeru Miyamoto or Eiji Aonuma to listen to what many fans are clamoring for!
