When Majora’s Mask 3D was released in 2015, I returned home for Spring Break to get my wisdom teeth removed. I know, what a super fun way to spend my Spring Break. After returning home being able to drink nothing but Sonic shakes and trying to ignore the pain in my mouth, Majora’s Mask 3D got me through it. I blitzed through the game over the course of the week, immersing myself in the story and characters, and I made it my goal to acquire every single Piece of Heart and Mask on my first playthrough. While each dungeon is incredibly distinct and fun in its own right, the standout for me was Stone Tower Temple. I scoured the internet for covers of the dungeon’s theme tune I could listen to while writing essays, and FENIX ARK ANGELUS‘ beautifully haunting rendition of this melody stood out.

I adore this cover of Stone Tower Temple. In fact, when the Zelda Dungeon staff wrote about their favorite covers a few years back, this was my selection, and my thoughts on it haven’t changed. This cover retains the core essence of the original melody while integrating new instrumentation that contributes to the foreboding ambiance and scale of this truly massive dungeon. By layering different instruments together and incorporating bridges, this rendition is melodic and almost sounds like a story in and of itself. Most dungeon themes are inherently repetitive, but this cover elevates the song to be something far deeper. When I think of Stone Tower Temple, I hear this version’s melody exclusively in my mind. For all these reasons, it’s my favorite Zelda cover of all time.

How about you? What are your thoughts on this reimagining of the Stone Tower Temple theme? Let us know in the comments!
