Hyrule Compendium: Why Was Breath of the Wild 2 Delayed?
Posted on April 01 2022 by Mike Midwood
The Zelda community is all abuzz after the recent announcement that the sequel to Breath of the Wild would be delayed until Spring 2023. While there is certainly disappointment that fans will have to wait even longer for a highly anticipated game with an already lengthy development, most of the conversation has centered around the possible reasons for the delay. ZeldaDungeon’s Mases Hagopian and Gooey Fame are ready to pontificate on the delay in this newest edition of the Hyrule Compendium!
Ever the optimist, Mases kicks off the discussion with his assertion that the delay has less to do with the status of the game and is more about marketing strategy. He correctly observes that both the original Breath of the Wild and the Switch are both selling extremely well for five-year old products. Mases also suggests that the sequel’s release will coincide with new hardware or a hardware upgrade. Gooey posits that perhaps Nintendo knows that, following the amazing reception of the original, Breath of the Wild‘s sequel will have to be a real showstopper and not just more of the same. Ultimately, they acknowledge that games are often improved by delays and that we may receive other Zelda content in the meantime.
What do you think of the delay? Do you agree with Mases and Gooey? Let us know in the comments below!
